2019 is officially in full swing! The holidays are long gone, January is over, and all of this just makes me antsy for spring! I love the coziness of winter fashion, but I can only handle the cold for so long until I’ve had enough and want it to warm up a little. We have even been having a bit more rain in LA lately, and that certainly isn’t helping dull my longing for spring.
Looking ahead to the warmer temperatures that I know will come soon enough, I wanted to share this gorgeous blue patterned mini dress with you all. This lovely little dress has a bold blue pattern and ruffles along the hem, sleeves, and neckline. Because the dress is rather busy, it is a statement on its own and doesn’t need very many other pieces along with it. A neutral shoe and minimal accessories will keep the overall look clean and prevent it from becoming overwhelming. What is great about mini dresses like this one is that they are so versatile because you can easily dress them up or down. This one in particular can be paired with sandals for running errands or a trip to the farmers’ market. It would even be darling to brunch or a family event. Most recently, I chose to wear these brown Sam Edelman T-strap sandals with the dress. I wear these sandals everywhere during the warmer months. I’ve had them for years and I’m still getting more miles out of them! On the flip side, dressing this look up would only require a few simple styling changes involving a shoe change and some accessories. Swap out the flat sandals for a pair of nude sandal heels. I have been wearing the Sam Edelman Ariella ankle strap sandal heel to all my dressier events lately. They are such a basic closet staple that you can wear with nearly everything. I also wore them to see Wicked at the Pantages, followed by dinner at Catch. You can read about that little adventure here. Adding heels instantly elevates this look and a nice ring or pair of earrings really finishes it off.
I know that this dress is better suited for the early days of spring, but I’m not sure I’m patient enough to wait that long. I might just don some sheer tights and a pair of white sneakers for a day of museums. Fortunately, California winters aren’t too bad, so I have to take advantage of that! I am gradually finding that my wardrobe is shifting toward a more feminine style. I am picking out very different pieces when I go shopping that I used to. Even just a year ago, I never would have picked out this dress, for ruffles and patterns used to scare me. However, I find this dress to be playful, girly, and eye-catching. It’s interesting how much our styles change over time. I am definitely enjoying this style evolution, and I look forward to documenting my fashion journey.
