Red, White, and Blue

Happy 4th of July weekend! I know that for most people, summer starts in June (or even the end of May for some), but it never quite feels like summer to me until the 4th of July. I never have any grand plans for the holiday. My dad’s aunt and uncle usually host a big 4th of July party at their house, but my attendance is always spotty. As a kid, my parents and I used to walk to Town Center and meet friends at the park for a picnic and fireworks. The older I got, the more I was oftentimes on a plane, for Nationals was always 4th of July weekend. I have probably seen fireworks from the sky as many times as I have seen them from the ground! While this week’s 4th of July-themed blog post is more appropriate for brunch or a small get-together with friends, my actual 4th of July plans this year are much more exciting. This year, I am going to Vegas!

I may not be wearing this look in Vegas (I plan on opting for more party looks), I pretty much wear this dress everywhere else. I have discussed how I have grown to love the midi hemline, but this is the dress that took my new love of midis to new heights. In my closet, this is my go-to look. I wear it with sneakers to the market, wedges to brunch, and slides for those especially hot days. Most recently, I wore it to my friend’s bridal shower. If I were going on a big trip over the summer, I would most definitely bring this dress as an easy dinner look, perfect for strolls after tasty food and a glass of wine. In the late summer days, I drag out a cute sweater or cardigan to wear over this midi, but more often than not, I find myself grabbing my trusty denim jacket. This particular denim jacket is nothing fancy. In fact, I even believe it’s from Target. However, it fits me perfectly and I took it from my mom’s closet (shhhh don’t tell), so I am kind of attached to it. After all, you have to cling to those items in your closet that are just especially good.

I may be swapping out this sweet midi dress for bikinis and bodycon dresses, but I couldn’t be happier about it. I am so excited for Vegas! I have never really been to Vegas before, for I don’t count my short trip there when I was 4 years old. Being that the weather is looking like it will be about 110 degrees all weekend, I highly doubt we will leave the pool much other than to gamble a little bit and go to a concert. I bought sparkly heels just for the occasion that I plan on wearing with my black party dress. I haven’t worn it since my 20th birthday, but it’s such a classic. I also ordered a very cute red bodycon dress to wear on the 4th of July with black heels. After all, you have to wear red, white, or blue on the 4th! I will be sure to dedicate an entire blog post about my trip to Vegas in the near future. However, I suspect moving will consume a great deal of my time. When I get back from Vegas, I have less than a week before I drive up to my new apartment in San Francisco. It feels weird to leave my life in LA behind. I’ve lived in Southern California my entire life, and LA is home to me more than any place else. This trip to Vegas is the perfect goodbye to my LA life. The next time I write for the blog, I will be in San Francisco!

xx
