Halloween 2019

I’m know it’s a bit on the later side, but I hope everyone had an amazing Halloween because I know I did! I apologize for this blog post coming out a week late, but I am in the height of midterms season, and school takes priority over the blog. Growing up, Halloween was never exactly the biggest holiday. I would go trick or treating, but it was not a holiday I particularly looked forward to. Most little kids absolutely love to play dress up and don different costumes. However after I grew out of the princess phase, I didn’t like wearing Halloween costumes. Quite frankly, I always felt silly. Things didn’t change until I started college, and Halloween got a whole lot more fun. I’m not a massive party girl, but I do enjoy a fun night out every now and then, especially with LA’s amazing night life. Typically, Halloween is one of the more fun nights. Halloween my freshman year of college was actually the first time I ever went to a frat party! It felt like such a quintessential college thing to do. Now that I am older, I have gotten over the sense of feeling silly on Halloween, and have embraced the fun of dressing up. My costumes are never that great, but I at least put in some sort of effort this year. My freshman year, I went as a mime. All I did was wear black and white with dark eye makeup. It was a very last minute costume, and I didn’t give it a whole lot of thought. I just borrowed my roommate’s t-shirt and paired it with black shorts and a bun. My sophomore year, I went as a school girl. It isn’t very original, but I practically had the costume lined up. I dug up my old high school uniform skirt and paired it with a crop top and pigtail braids. Definitely one of my better costumes to date. I mean how could it not? The costume couldn’t be much more authentic! This year, I went with a character and chose to go as Daphne from Scooby-Doo! My whole costume is courtesy of Amazon, and I absolutely love it. The best part of it all was that my friend’s boyfriend was dressed as Fred, and we didn’t even plan it! I then managed to convince another friend to dress as Shaggy. He originally wasn’t planning on going to West Hollywood with us and was just going to come to the pre-party meet up to say hi to everyone. However, he also agreed that dressing up as Shaggy would be too perfect, and decided to come along too.

For Halloween this year, I wanted to go to West Hollywood’s Halloween festivities. I had heard about how they shut down a section of Santa Monica Blvd. for the event. Last year, I even got stuck in all the detoured traffic for the party. It’s the reason I never made it to yoga that afternoon! I apologize for the tangent, but if you think it’s weird that I went to yoga on Halloween last year, the reason I went  is because I didn’t do anything particularly interesting (clearly). I just went to dinner with my boyfriend at the time and walked through the neighborhood around UCLA, admiring all the fun Halloween decorations on the homes. This year, I wanted to make up for last year’s less than exciting plans and partake in one of LA’s notorious Halloween events! The West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval is essentially a massive block party of people in amazing costumes. All of the bars and clubs are open, and it really is a sight to see for yourself. The amount of creativity people put into their looks is just amazing, and it really makes me want to try harder next year!

Although I am a blogger, I am definitely not on my phone 24/7. I like to enjoy a memory for what it is, and maybe take a picture or two along the way, but I don’t do things just for the picture. Because of how much I was enjoying my night, I only have the costume pictures of the Scooby gang (plus a Sims) to share. However despite my lack of photos, I assure you that the West Hollywood Halloween scene is something you have to do at least once if you are in town. The energy could not have been more fun, and the people watching was definitely at its finest.

I know the next Halloween is a year away, but I have linked all the details for my Daphne costume in the product carousel for this post and in the LIKEtoKNOW.it app. I know many are familiar with the app, and how it works, but I will be sure to do a formal blog post about how to use it to save and shop all my looks! It is seriously the most convenient shopping app on my phone, and I know you all will love it!

xx
