Is this the socially acceptable version of Risky Business? I think so! While I may lack the Hollywood charm that Tom Cruise inevitably has, I like to think that I have enough charisma sometimes. At the very least, a dress like this ensures that I’m about as well dressed!
I know what everyone is thinking: “Emily, it’s November. Why are you giving us a summer dress?” Quite frankly, the answer is because I shot this look during the summer, but I’m choosing to share it now instead of next year because it transitions well into fall. It is probably easier to style this dress for the summer months; the lightweight fabric and bright color palette don’t make that very hard. Here, I paired it with white sneakers, but you could just as easily swap them out for sandals or espadrilles. However, taking this dress into the early fall season isn’t too tricky. All it would take is a little shoe change. Some chestnut suede over the knee boots would definitely get the job done for tackling an LA fall day, especially because the sunny days can be warm, but you’ll want a little extra coverage in the evening. I finally found a pair of wide calf ones that came in the mail the other day. You can find them here, and I’ll be sure to show you all in my Instagram stories what they look like on. I can really see myself wearing this dress with those boots to brunch with the girls!
The early fall weather really has been nice! As much as I love my mini dresses, it’s nice to swap them out for a pair of jeans instead. However, my favorite part of fall fashion is that I get to wear all of my boots again…which really means I get to wear heels on the daily again! I absolutely love any shoe with a heel. It just makes me feel so sophisticated and adult-like. Just thinking of jeans, a heeled boot, and my camel coat all together is enough to make me drool. One of my favorite fall activities is drinking tea in the evenings while I knit or crochet. Right now, I’m finishing up a blanket for my mom and a scarf for my friend in Seattle. The scarf was just my way of learning a new stitch, but Seattle can get so cold that I decided she would need the scarf up north a lot more than I would in LA! When that project is finished, I’ll get to work on a baby blanket for my cousin, who just announced that she’s having another baby. I really do love working on knit and crochet crafts for my friends and family. I don’t have a need for all of the blankets, scarves, and hats that I make, so they make perfect gifts. Other than my crafting, I’m finishing up my law school applications. Thankfully, they’re almost done, but I will admit that I have been procrastinating a bit toward the end. At this point, I just want it off my hands. In a way, I just wish I could skip forward to 2021 and start law school. Soon enough though, I’ll be there. I just have to be patient and make the best of this crazy gap year: pandemic, election, and everything else in between.
xx
