The time has officially come, and I could not be more excited! I am officially sharing with you my absolute favorite fashion staple! Yes, a white button up or the perfect pair of jeans will go a long way, but the perfect camel coat can seriously revolutionize your look. I firmly believe camel coats are made of magic, for they posses the power to transform and elevate every outfit you add it to.
I bought mine on a semi-meditated whim last fall. The reason I’m calling it a “semi-meditated whim” is because I had been watching the trend very closely on Pinterest on how to wear it, but I was hesitant to pull the trigger on the purchase. I was nervous I would never wear it because I wasn’t really much of a coat person at the time. Well, now I am! I finally sprung for the TopShop one at the Century City mall after work (Fun fact: At the time, I worked walking distance from that mall at a private wealth management firm). Although I cannot remember the exact price, the coat was somewhere around $100, which was perfect for my budget because at that price point, I knew it would be high quality enough to last me a while if I liked it, but I also didn’t break the bank on one that was five times that.
A year later, I could not be happier with my purchase. I still reach for it instinctively every time I need an extra layer. The camel color is so versatile that it quite literally goes with everything. I even wear it to class, backpack and all! The pockets are the perfect size for your keys or your phone for a quick grab, and the red details in the lining and stitching are a nice touch. A little uniform I created for myself with the camel coat follows a neutral color scheme. You really cannot go wrong with a pair of jeans, a black top, black ballet flats or white sneakers, and of course the camel coat. I usually wear a black crew neck sweater with this look, but I sometimes opt for a black t-shirt or tank top instead. Regardless, this go-to look I have concocted for myself is timeless, effortless, chic, and ridiculously easy. It is essentially jeans and a top, but the camel coat takes it to a whole new level of polished. You look like you have your life together, even if you don’t (which is great for the college student still figuring out their life). Of course, you do not need to stick to a neutral color palette, for the camel color of the coat is very versatile and pairs well with brighter colors. It’s just that I tend to favor neutrals. However, I have been making a conscious effort lately to incorporate more color into my outfits, and I have noticed increasing amounts of blue, green, and pink in my closet.
Although I will make this particular coat last as long as I possibly can, I will be sure to quickly find a replacement once it has seen the end of its days. Perhaps my next one will be more of an investment piece. After all, I now know how much I wear it. I would rather buy one high quality one that’s a bit on the pricier side than multiple replacements that would add up to more than the single investment piece. Of all the things I have talked about the blog, the camel coat is easily one of my favorite fashion must-haves and one of the pieces I could not insist upon more. If I could write fashion canon, I would add that everyone needs to own a camel coat. But then again, where would the fun and creativity be if fashion canon existed?
It feels awfully weird to be writing about a coat when the highs for the past week have been in the 80s and low 90s. With temps like that, a coat is about the last thing on my mind! However, the forecast says the weather should cool down a smidge in the upcoming week, which will be nice. In addition to the crazy weather this past week, I can happily say that I had a much better week than usual. I’ve shared before that it’s been a rough year, and it was nice to have a really good week for a change. I really do think that I’m on an upswing, and I’m optimistic that it’ll hold. Nothing like a Jonas Brothers concert to change the tides in my favor, right?
