Thanksgiving Fashion

Happy Thanksgiving season! With Halloween behind us, it is time to hang up our costumes and start getting busy in the kitchen. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays because it marks the beginning of my family getting together more as the holiday season commences. Every year, we all get together at my great-grandma’s house and crowd ourselves into the living room to watch the football game and catch up as we eagerly await dinner to be ready. Traditionally, my dad makes the turkey for the whole family. I am very fortunate that my dad is an amazing cook, and I look forward to his turkey every year. However, my favorite dish is actually a family recipe! My great-grandma makes an oyster stuffing that is so savory and delicious. It is easily a family favorite.

Since I was a little girl, I always looked forward to picking out what I was going to wear to each family party. After not seeing my family in a couple months, I always wanted to put on my cutest outfit and look my best. I particularly remember one Christmas where I wore a gorgeous navy blue dress that I absolutely loved. It had a tulle skirt perfect for twirling and looked darling with my black patent leather Mary Jane shoes. I thought I was fabulous in the moment, and I think I was adorable, looking back. Needless to say, that little girl is still inside of me, for all these years later, I still get excited when I think about what I am going to wear to all the different holiday parties. My style has evolved much from the years of Mary Janes and tulle skirts. However, variations on those feminine elements are very much still present in my current style.

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, here is some inspiration for what to wear to your Thanksgiving functions. This year, I will be wearing this woven plaid skirt with a simple cream sweater. Unless Los Angeles is hit with a heat wave that makes this outfit unbearable to wear, I am set on wearing this to Thanksgiving dinner this year. It is the perfect California fall outfit, that will keep you warm enough in the chillier evening, but can handle the heat of the kitchen. This skirt is fun, yet it can be styled to be either edgy or preppy. For an edgier look, I chose black heeled booties and larger silver hoop earrings. If you prefer the preppy route, I suggest black flats and a clean hairstyle for a polished look. I usually go for a classic, timeless look that is chic and feminine (think Rachel Green from Friends). Sometimes my style even includes preppy elements. However, edgy fashion is fun to play with, and I enjoy experimenting with other styles.

Thanksgiving is a holiday about being grateful and appreciative of the things in your life, the people you share them with, and the opportunities to be had. Before we eat our Thanksgiving dinner, my family goes in a circle saying what each of us are thankful for. This year, I plan to share that I am thankful for all the people in my life who have taught me something valuable and made this year special. As we ring in the holiday season, keep yourself centered by maintaining this Thanksgiving mindset so as to not get overwhelmed with the hectic Christmas season approaching. Whatever Thanksgiving plans you have with your family and friends, I hope you all have a wonderful holiday!

xx
